Symptoms Of Anemia – Could This Be Why You Do Not Feel Well?

Anemia is a condition in which the number of red blood cells or the amount of hemoglobin (a protein which attaches oxygen to red blood cells) is decreased. In just a few minutes you can learn from this article what the symptoms of anemia look like, what causes the condition and the treatment options available.

Anemia

Symptoms – Signs and symptoms of anemia may include difficulty breathing (the person may experience a feeling of being out of breath), pale skin (this pale color may also be noticed at the fingernails, eyes, and gums), fatigue, and weakness. Other symptoms may include vertigo or dizziness, headaches, sore throat, a general ill-feeling, rapid heartbeat (tachycardia), nausea, Angina Pectoris, or abdominal pain.

Cause – Many factors can contribute to anemia such as iron deficiencies, this is because iron is needed for the body to produce hemoglobin. Other factors may include excessive blood loss (hemorrhage) or blood cell destruction (hemolytic anemia); disorders that involve the bone marrow or deficiencies in B-12 (pernicious anemia) or folic acid can also lead to the development of this condition.

Diagnosis – The first signs of this condition may be the observation of the aforementioned symptoms. In some people the first indication of the disorder will be discovered through a routine examination or blood tests. Analysis of bone marrow, a history of the person’s diet, or more involved blood analysis may be needed to accurately diagnose the cause of anemia.

Treatment – Treatments for this condition will vary depending on the cause. Treatment may involve control of any excessive bleeding, supplementing the diet with iron, B-12, or folic acid, or possibly a blood transfusion, marrow-stimulating medication, or antibiotics.

The only symptom some people may be experiencing is an overall ill-feeling that they cannot shake. If this feeling lingers without explanation a consultation with a doctor should take place.
